MVLA Technology Standards

Overview

The technology standards highlighted below are updated regularly. The MVLA IT department aims to provide our students and staff with the most robust, up-to-date equipment, software, and other technology tools. The standards highlighted below were updated in August 2026.

  • A server rack filled with network cables and equipment.The MVLA network:

    • Core Switch:  Cisco Catalyst 9500 (with redundancy)
    • MDF Switching:  Cisco Catalyst 9500 (with redundancy)
    • IDF Switching:  Cisco Meraki MS390
    • Wireless Access Points:  Cisco Meraki MR55/MR56 (Indoor); Cisco Meraki MR84/86 (Outdoor)

    Cabling

    • Single-mode fiber throughout the entire district
    • Cat 6A for all wireless access points
    • Cat 6+ for all wired connections

    Servers

    • Nutanix 

  • MVLA classrooms are equipped with the following equipment:

    • Teacher Computer: Either an Apple MacBook or Dell Notebook computer (specs are listed on this page)
    • Docking station: HP EliteDisplay Docking Monitor or current model
    • Classroom Printer: (model varies)
    • Document Camera: (iPevo V4K PRO Ultra HD USB or HoverCam Orbit Air - wireless model)
    • Projection: Epson Short-throw (1485fi laser) or Epson L530U Ceiling-mounted laser projector
    • Wireless Projection: Vivi
    • Audio: Lightspeed TopCat

  • Needs in computer labs vary, dependent upon the program(s) being taught.

    Windows MINIMAL Standards

    • i7 Processor
    • 16GB RAM
    • 512GB SSD
    • HDMI, DisplayPort, up to four USB ports
    • Bluetooth and Wireless

    MacOS MINIMAL Standards

    • 24" size for iMac model
    • Apple M4 Processor
    • 24GB RAM
    • 512GB SSD
    • Up to four USB-C ports
    • Bluetooth and Wireless

  • Windows (Dell Micro) Desktops with minimum standards of:

    • i7 Pro Processor
    • 16GB RAM
    • 256GB SSD
    • HDMI, Display Ports, and at least four USB 3.1 ports
    • Bluetooth and wireless
    • Monitor: Varies; 24" minimum

  • Minimum standards for MacBook Air and Windows Notebooks (Dell Pro)

    • Processor (Windows i7 Pro / M5 for MacBooks)
    • 16GB RAM (24 GB for Mac)
    • 512GB SSD
    • Bluetooth, wireless
    • 13.6" Screen (Mac) | 14" Screen (Windows)

  • iPads:

    • Apple M5 Chip minimal
    • 256GB memory
    • Display size dependent upon program/individual need

    Android:

    • MVLA does not typically order Android tablets; standards will be established if/when needed

  • Classroom Printer:

    • HP LaserJet Pro M4001dn (B&W)
    • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdn

    Office / Department Printers:

    • Determined by setting/need
