Emergency Information
MVLAHSD Emergency Information for Parents/Families
Your Child's Safety Is Our First Priority
When an emergency strikes, every MVLA High School District staff member is focused on one thing: the safety and well-being of your student. We annually review our emergency response capabilities so that when it matters most, we're ready.
Every school in our district is equipped and prepared — with plans in place for rescue operations, first aid, sanitation, food, and essential support services. Your child will remain in our care until you or someone you've authorized arrives to take them home.
We Practice So We're Prepared
All students and staff take part in annual emergency preparedness drills designed to sharpen our response, protect lives, and minimize injuries if disaster strikes. Every school conducts fire and earthquake preparedness drills as well as Run Hide Defend training to ensure we're prepared for a full range of emergency scenarios.
A Coordinated Response at Every Level
In any emergency, your child's school will work in direct coordination with the District office, which connects immediately with local emergency services — ensuring a seamless, organized response from the classroom to the community level.
What You Should Know if Disaster Strikes
Please know that your child is very likely safer at school than anywhere else during a disaster. By law, school staff are designated Disaster Service Workers in a declared emergency — meaning they are committed to staying with your students around the clock for up to 72 hours until every child is safely reunited with their family.
Before an Emergency
Ensure that you have current contact information (cell phone, email) in Aeries.
Ensure that emergency contact information is up to date and that all persons listed as Emergency contacts are aware of their status for your student(s).

During an Emergency DO
Stay put and wait for information from the school/district.
Check your cell phone and voice/text/email for updates. We will communicate updates through ParentSquare Alerts/Posts.
ParentSquare Urgent Alerts override all user preferred notifications and will notify you via cell phone SMS and email provided you have given the district updated information.

During an Emergency DON’T
Do not come to the school until you receive specific guidance to do so from the principal or MVLA District Administration.
Do not call the school. Phone lines need to remain open for law enforcement and emergency personnel.
If your child communicates with you via cell, please do not call him or her. TEXT ONLY.
Check Out /Reunification
Staff will remain with students until they are picked up by a parent/authorized emergency contact.
Parents may be notified in a number of ways. The district will use ParentSquare alerts and posts as its primary form of communication.
If a parent or guardian is notified that a controlled release and reunification is needed,
- Bring identification. That will streamline things during reunification.
WHAT IF A PARENT CAN’T PICK UP THEIR STUDENT? When a parent can’t immediately go to the reunification site, students will only be released to individuals previously identified as a student’s emergency contact. Otherwise, the school will hold students until parents can pick up their student.
WHAT IF THE STUDENT DROVE TO SCHOOL? There may be instances where a student is not allowed to remove a vehicle from the parking lot. In this case, parents are advised to retrieve the student. In some circumstances, high school students may be released on their own.
