- About MVLA
Superintendent's Message
Dear MVLA Community,
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2024-25 academic year. Growing up and going to school in the Santa Clara Valley, I’ve always had a great respect for MVLA and its ability to compete in the classroom, on the stage, at the podium, in athletics and in the community. As you may know, MVLA is one of the preeminent school districts in the state of California. It boasts some of the highest test scores in Silicon Valley and sends many of its seniors off to universities and colleges across the United States and internationally. In fact, a survey conducted by our MVLA Education Foundation showed that 84% of our graduating seniors are continuing their post-secondary education.
In just my short time in MVLA, I have found that every faculty and staff member I have met is committed to creating a quality learning environment. These environments include the traditional comprehensive site experience in Mountain View and Los Altos High Schools with a wide array of co- and extracurricular activities to go along with their rigorous academic programs. Juniors and seniors at these schools can take advantage of our Freestyle Academy, whereby students can complete a career pathway in animation, design, or film at a new facility adjacent to Mountain View High School. For those students interested in a smaller setting, Alta Vista High School provides a California Department of Education Model Continuation School program.
MVLA is also very proud of its Adult Education program that serves over 5,000 community members offering many courses in Career Technical Education, English as a Second Language, and high school completion. MVLA Adult Education also has many community interest-based classes for our local life-long learners.
With so much to offer our students, I am truly honored to be a part of a team that is providing a fantastic start to our students’ adult lives. As the new superintendent, I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourselves to me when you see me on your campus.
Sincerely,
Eric Volta
Superintendent, Mountain View – Los Altos Union High School District
