Basic Troubleshooting Tips

Technology sometimes has challenges.  Just like your car, it needs a "tune-up" every now and then.

THE MVLA IT DEPARTMENT ALWAYS RECOMMENDS THE USE OF GOOGLE CHROME BROWSER FOR ALL MVLA-RELATED WORK / BUSINESS.

Here are some tips to help.

Chromebook Problems?
  • Turn off your Chromebook, then turn it back on.
  • Close all your apps and browser windows.
  • If a specific tab in your browser causes your Chromebook to crash or freeze, hard refresh the page: Ctrl + Shift + r.
  • If you've installed any new apps or extensions recently, uninstall them.
If you are experiencing issues with a district-issued mobile hotspot:
  • T-Mobile Hotspots:  Perform a factory reset by opening the back cover and pushing the small reset button for three seconds
  • Boost (Sprint) Hotspots:  With the unit turned on, hold the power button and the WPS button (on the top side of the unit) together for up to 13 seconds.  The lights will begin to blink, indicating the unit is back to its factory settings.

Zoom & Chrome OS

The MVLA IT Department recommends the following:

If students are using their own device, please make sure you are using the most current version of Zoom?   How do you check for this?

Mac Update Zoom - Mac
Windows Update Zoom - Windows
Chrome OS See information below

CHROME OS UPDATE!

The MVLA IT department has recently pushed out an upgrade to all MVLA Chromebook devices. In order to ensure the upgrade has been pushed out correctly, we would like for you to take a moment and verify the software has installed correctly.

This will take between 10-15 minutes to complete. Please make sure to complete this update as soon as possible.

  • Turn on your Chromebook.
  • Make sure you are connected to the district WIFI network or your home WIFI network.
  • Sign in to the device with your MVLA account or as a Guest.
  • At the bottom right, select the time.
  • Select Settings .
  • Select Menu About Chrome OS.
  • Under "Google Chrome OS," you'll see which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook is using.
  • Select Check for Updates.
  • If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically.
  • When the upgrade is complete, the Chrome OS should be at Version 85. Make sure to reboot the device.

UPDATE YOUR ZOOM EXTENSION IN CHROME (FOR CHROMEBOOK USERS)

  • In the address bar, type chrome://extensions.
  • Find the Zoom extension towards the bottom of your page.
  • Verify the extension reads "Zoom Cloud Meetings for Chrome" in the description.
  • Click the Details button.
  • Click the Update button.

When the update is complete, your Zoom extension should be version 5.0.0 (4192.0928) or newer.
