Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
MTSS, or Multi-Tiered System of Supports, is a framework that serves as an organizational method for aligning resources and initiatives within a school or educational system. It aims to ensure that every student receives the necessary level of support to succeed by aligning academic standards and behavioral expectations, implementing evidence-based instruction, intervention, and assessment practices, and maintaining fidelity and sustainability over time.
MTSS is recommended in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) as a comprehensive continuum of practices that enable a prompt response to students' needs through regular observation and data-driven instructional decision-making.
