MVLA ACT Scores Continue to Improve and Two Students Achieve Perfect ACT Scores
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – The Mountain View Los Altos High School District (MVLA) recently received the results from the 2013 administration of the ACT, a test that is accepted by all major U.S. Colleges. The District composite average for the ACT was 27.0 (the state average is 22.2, see attached tables). The national average for the percent of ACT-tested students ready for college-level work is twenty-six percent, while the MVLA average is sixty-seven percent.
In addition, Seraphine Goh from Mountain View High School and Samuel Lisbonne of Los Altos High School earned the top perfect composite score of 36 on a recent ACT exam. Nationally, approximately one-tenth of one percent of students receives a top score. Among test takers in the high school graduating class of 2013, only 1,162 of nearly 1.8 million students earned a perfect composite score of 36.
The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores. In a letter recognizing their achievement, ACT CEO Jon Whitmore said, “Your exceptional scores will provide any colleges to which you choose to apply ample evidence of your readiness for the academic rigors that lie ahead. Test scores are just one of multiple criteria that most colleges consider when making admission decisions.”
