• # 2018-19: Algebra I

Course Description: Algebra I prepares students for a subsequent course in either geometry or second-year algebra. Additionally, the course aims to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. Topics covered in Algebra I are:

· expressions and equations

· operations with negative numbers

· distributing, axioms, and other properties

· operations with polynomials and radicals

· linear functions

· scattered data and probability

· properties of exponents

· rational algebraic expressions

· inequalities.

• # 2018-19: Algebra II

Course Description: Algebra 2 is taken after a student has successfully taken Algebra 1. This course covers representations and use of various kinds of mathematical functions, concepts to modeling and problem solving.

These include:
● Sequences and series
● powers and roots
● complex numbers
● exponents and logarithms
● polynomials and polynomial functions
● modeling linear and exponential data
● rational functions
● linear systems
● statistics and probability
● trigonometric ratios and functions

• # 2018-19: Algebra II (Enhanced)

Course Description: This course will assist students in developing their math skills and assist with concepts from Algebra II. Problem solving skills aligned with the Common Core standards will be strongly emphasized. Topics covered:

● polynomials and polynomial functions
● modeling linear and exponential data
● rational functions
● linear systems
● statistics and probability
● trigonometric ratios and functions

• # 2018-19: Algebra II (Honors)

Course Description: Students will formulate solutions to problems based on applications of mathematical principles. Students will be asked to analyze data, to organize information, and to relate the information to a similar problem to formulate a solution. Students will be expected to apply mathematical skills at an advanced level and to demonstrate an ability to use mathematics in practical applications of life and physical sciences. Students will be expected to write mathematical solutions to problems in a clear and meaningful way. Students will present their work to the class and explain solutions to problems, using the whiteboard, projector, chart paper, and/or graphing calculators. Specific topics of interest include linear, polynomial, rational, irrational, exponential, and logarithmic functions, Systems of equations, sequences and series, and complex numbers.

• # 2018-19: Calculus AB (AP)

Course Description: This is an advanced placement college level mathematics course. The student will be prepared for the advanced placement Calculus AB examination, the successful completion of which may result in advanced placement and/or credit at the college level. The course outline follows the syllabus prescribed by the College Board. This course covers differential and integral calculus of a single variable. Lecturing, class discussions, small group work, and student’s individual work in class will be the main modes of instruction.

• # 2018-19: Calculus BC (AP)

Class Description: This is an advanced placement college level mathematics course. The student will be prepared for the advanced placement Calculus BC examination, the successful completion of which may result in advanced placement and/or credit at the college level. • # 2018-19: Geometry

Geometry is a fundamental math course. Students will develop logical reasoning and learn how to form deductive mathematical proofs. Additionally, students will learn to work with and apply concepts of:

- Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
- Properties of Transformations
- Congruent Triangles
- Relationships within Triangles
- Proportions and Similarity
- Right triangles and trigonometry
- Properties of Circles
- Surface Area and Volume of Solids
- Probability

• # 2018-19: Geometry (Honors)

Course Description: This course is designed as a first year course in Geometry for the advanced student. It is devoted mainly to plane geometry, with shorter introductions to solid geometry and plane coordinate geometry. By the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. prove mathematical concepts using a variety of techniques, including two-column, paragraph, and indirect proofs;
2. use techniques of logic to develop a deductive structure for the entire course;
3. understand and utilize the relationships between angles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, planes, and plane figures;
4. prove properties of polygons;
5. develop and apply rules of similar figures;
6. derive and apply formulas for measuring areas of plane figures;
7. derive and utilize formulas for calculating volumes and surface areas of geometric solids.

• # 2018-19: Math Essentials Concepts

Course Description: This course reviews math concepts in preparation of entry level math courses (such as Statistics, Liberal Arts Math & Advanced Algebra) given by community colleges. Life skills will also be introduced such as

● Resiliency
● College/Post-secondary awareness
● General finance

Lecturing, class discussions, small group work, and student’s individual work in class will be the main modes of instruction to promote the development of analytical thinking in abstract domains and problem solving approaches.
