LAHS Senior Kayley Gould - 2019 Youth Champion

Since 1987, the MVLA Challenge Team has been building community partnerships to support the success of children, youth and families in the cities of Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. They bring together leaders from school districts, city and county services, parent and student groups, and other non-profit organizations to serve youth and strengthen our community.  Every year they honor a Youth Champion who has gone above and beyond with acts of benevolence to benefit the community. Today LAHS Senior Kayley Gould was recognized and celebrated by more than 100 people, including her family, district and school administrators, elected officials and many others.

MVLA Superintendent Jeff Harding introduced Kayley, saying that she demonstrated strength of character and grit. He highlighted her high ideals and humility, saying, “She cares more about integrity than building a resume.”

Kayley carries a heavy academic load, while also competing in varsity swimming, diving, and water polo. Her team won CCS for two consecutive years. She is also a busy volunteer and tutor. She is the founder and president of the on-campus club called Buena Vista Homework Club, which sends high school volunteers twice a week to tutor young children who live in a local trailer park. When she started the club, there were five volunteers; today there are 30! She also volunteers with the Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network, and organizes parties for the children.

In the fall, Kayley will attend Stanford, where she plans to study education and psychology.
