Mountain View High Sophomore Emma Athey lives near school and walks every day. She noticed that cars were speeding along Bryant at Brower streets and not yielding students walking and biking. Emma saw the need for safety measures and took the initiative to make a change. She met with her Assistant Principal Teri Faught who encouraged her to write a proposal, which she did and submitted to an engineer with the City of Mountain View. It took seven months to achieve but in June, the city put in crosswalks at Bryant and Brower.
For her contribution to school safety, Emma is September’s MVLA Spotlight. She was recognized at the September 3 Board of Trustees meeting.
