Ms. Connie Chen

I was born and raised in Shanghai and received my B.A. in Economics from UC Berkeley and later my single subject teaching credential from San Francisco State University. As the Mandarin teacher at Los Altos High School, I’ve taught all five levels of Mandarin classes (Mandarin 1,2,3, 4H, AP Chinese)  to a diverse group of students and have helped develop the Mandarin program since I started teaching here in 2015.

My concept of a teacher is that a teacher should not merely act as a gateway to knowledge. A person can only become a better teacher by influencing students with his or her passion, enthusiasm, and dedication, by exposing students to the beauty of the things that are being taught. In my Mandarin class, I strive to maintain a communicative, student-centered classroom and promote cross-cultural awareness and appreciation.

This year I'm teaching Mandarin 1,2,3 while pursuing a master's degree in Education. I look forward to another great year with my students!
