MVLA Update - March 13, 2021
Dear MVLA Community,
We thank you for your feedback about our reopening plans. As we continue to advance the timeline and format, we have focused our planning and implementation on prioritizing the following needs:
- Student access to learning with minimal transitional adjustments for students and teachers
- Protecting the equitable learning experiences for all students
- Providing opportunities for students to socialize and interact with peers and staff in a safe environment
We feel strongly that the models for reopening that we have designed meet the needs outlined above and also continue to protect students, staff, and families. We also are committed to increasing student access to physical return as soon as we can.

Student Return - Stable Student Groups
MVLA is implementing a phased-in approach to the re-opening of our campuses to more in-person instruction. In our current Phase II, and using our Stable Learning Groups Hub Model, we are identifying students interested in being part of these learning groups. Simultaneously, we are advancing planning for Phase III, a hybrid model in which teachers will provide both in-person and remote instruction concurrently.
Here are some resources related to the phased-in implementation:

- Frequently-Asked Questions about Return to School
We welcome your participation. You can learn more about requirements to become a substitute employee and the application process here.
Our school site teams presented their annual safety plans to the Board of Education on Monday, March 8. We have updated our format to include a comprehensive guide to actions necessary during emergency situations and included actions important for our operations during the ongoing pandemic. The presentation is available on this recording, starting at approximately 1:33:56. We thank our site teams, school site councils, and school safety committees, and local public safety agencies for their hard work and diligence in preparing these important documents.
The next webinar in our Spring Series of Brown Bag sessions is a Special Education Update on Wednesday, March 17, from noon - 1 p.m. Special Education staff will provide an update on our Special Education cohorts, assessments, and safety considerations as we advance in our phased-in return. They’ll also answer parent questions about ongoing planning for supporting students. Register here!
