Why Wellness is Important

There is a growing and unmet need for mental health services for children and teens.
The U.S. Surgeon General, CDC, and NIMH report that one in five children and teens will face a significant mental health condition during their school years. Mental health disorders affecting teens can range from anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), depression, eating disorders and schizophrenia. Serious mental health problems such as self-injurious behaviors and suicide are on the rise.
Mentally healthy teens are more successful in high school and life.
At MVLA, we recognize the connection between academic achievement and student wellness, and that student emotional wellness is a critical building block of overall well-being. Our aim is to cultivate a culture of wellness by supporting the health, well-being, educational outcomes, and self-advocacy of all students and staff.=
School mental health promotion and intervention services support the purpose of school: learning.
MVLA administrators, teachers, and staff support students’ social and emotional well-being by creating safe and nurturing environments in which students may learn and grow. Our skilled and caring school-based mental health services team are experts in adolescent mental health and their interventions with students support them toward academic success.
