MVLA Students and Families,
Hello, I hope you are doing well and able to find time to rest and take care of your family. I want to thank all of you for your patience as we deal with the COVID-19 crisis. I also appreciate the flexibility and agility as you manage at-home activities while our county shelters in place. This health emergency is a reminder of how important it is to be good to ourselves and each other. I want to share with you some information about how we will deliver instruction, how we will provide necessary meals, and how we will provide access to technology.
Our instructional team and many teachers have spent this week working on preparations for our flexible learning plan, identifying Google Classroom as our platform, developing guidelines and usage agreements for both students and staff, and identifying needed modifications and supports needed by special populations. We will begin to deliver at-home learning starting Monday, March 23. Prior to the launch, we will share the final guidelines and agreements, and details on how at-home instruction will be conducted.
We also are moving forward with providing meals for our students who currently receive free and reduced-price lunch in partnership with Mountain View Whisman School District. We will be providing meals each weekday for all students age 18 and younger (no IDs required) at Gabriela Mistral Elementary School.(See flyer)
In order to provide internet access to those who are without, we will be purchasing hotspots with data so students will be able to fully participate in flexible learning. We will set up a process for distribution. We are collecting names of students who are in need of internet access and/or Chromebooks. If your family needs this assistance, and you have not already let your school know, please fill out this form so we can contact you.
Lastly, families have asked us for tips on activities to do at home with teenagers in conjunction with our flexible learning plan. We will have a list of activities and resources being added to our website - please check back often as we are updating throughout the day at https://www.mvla.net/About-MVLA/General-Information/COVID-19-Information/index.html.
Please take care of yourselves,
Nellie Meyer, Ed.D.
